Plus Size Jeans Fashion Tips

The Best Pair of Jeans for Your Shape

Jeans come in all shapes and sizes, which is a good thing because so do bodies.  When you are looking for a good pair of jeans for your body shape, you need to first know what your body shape is and then you can go from there to find the jeans that will be the most flattering.  There are six common body types:

Rectangular
This body type is characterized by these traits:
*    Shoulders and hips are equal in width
*    There is little definition of the waist
*    Bust size is average with a large rib cage
*    The backside is flat
*    Weight is typically gained in the abdomen, thighs and love handles

The best jeans tips for this body type:
*   Find a Flared leg in a relaxed fit that hugs and lifts your backside
*   Straight fit from hip to knee
*   Low rise with a low front and high back for the short-waisted
*   Higher rise for the long-waisted or proportionate
*   Fades along the legs or a lighter wash shapes the thighs

Pear
This body type is characterized by these traits:
*   Hips and backside are rounded
*   Waist is defined
*   Shoulders are narrow and bust is small
*   Weight is typically gained in the backside, thighs and saddlebags

The best jeans tips for this body type:
*   Opt for boot cut and flared legs for a long, lean look
*   A low rise helps the rear look shorter and the torso longer
*   Higher placed pockets make the legs appear longer
*   Stretch jeans can give a comfortable, flattering look
*   A darker wash can be slimming

Hourglass
This body type is characterized by these traits:
*   Very curvy
*   Shoulders are straight
*   Waist is defined
*   Backside is curvy
*   Bust and hips are proportionate
*   Weight is typically gained in the love handles, stomach and thighs

The best jeans tips for this body type:
*   Just about any style works for this body type, just make sure that the fit is good
*   Flare or boot cut is very flattering
*   Find a cut that has a larger hip and a smaller waist so you don’t get “back gap”
*   Stretch denim is a nice fabric for this body type
*   Low rise jeans can balance a short waist

Inverted Triangle
This body type is characterized by these traits:
*   Broad shoulders
*   Bust is medium to full
*   Waist is average
*   Hips are narrow
*   Weight is typically gained in the stomach, midsection, breasts and arms

The best jeans tips for this body type:
*   Go for boot cut and flared legs for a long and lean look
*   A yoke in the back can make a slim backside look fuller
*   Low rise that has a contoured waistline
* *   Embellishments or fades in the pocket area or on the front thigh add accents to the hips
Lighter washes and fades

Full Rounded
This body type is characterized by these traits:
*   Body is round
*  Waist is shorter and fuller
*   Rib cage is wider
*  Neck and back are rounded
*  Weight is typically gained in the stomach, hips and waist

The best jeans tips for this body type:
*   Opt for boot cut jeans for a long, lean look
*   Relaxed through the hip and thigh but fitted at the waist
*   Medium to high rise as long as it is at least one inch below the belly button
*   Wide waistbands
*   Darker washes and fades

Diamond
This body type is characterized by these traits:
*   Narrow shoulders
*   Small bust
*   Wider hips
*   Large thighs
*   Weight is typically gained in the midsection, hips and thighs

The best jeans tips for this body type:
*   A boot cut with some stretch is flattering
*   Relaxed fit
*   Higher pockets for the illusion of longer legs
*   Larger pockets to make the backside appear smaller
*   Dark denim washes and fades are very flattering

These guidelines can help you choose the best jeans for your body type.  Just avoid the “muffin top” and remember that smaller pockets will make your backside look larger, so watch that rear!
