Choosing a Plus Size Evening Gown that Flatters You

Many plus size ladies make the mistake of buying  evening gowns  that are  all wrong for them. Some are bothered by their size so they pick a size that is too small and then suffer for the sense of style, while others choose a size that is too large. Too large can often be as inappropriate as two small.

It is important to remember that a beautiful dress is supposed to fit your body properly. The “dress is supposed to make the woman” and not the other way around! It is essential that you find a dress that fits your curves and draws the eye to your eye-catching spots while taking the emphasis off of the less than perfect parts of your body. The type of material the dress is made from is as important as the size you choose. Look for material that flows over your curves in a seductive manner. If you look at yourself in a full-length mirror wearing a dress and your eyes are not immediately drawn to your curvaceous areas then it is likely that no one else’s eyes will be either. Next dress please!

Finding a dress that flatters your figure is essential to you feeling confident in the dress. You will glow in the right dress and feel like a queen but in the wrong dress you will feel out of place and not so good. Dresses with simple cuts such as A-line dresses and sheath dresses are very flattering to plus size women. One of these types of dresses in a dark color such as black or navy blue, is sure to look like a million dollars on you.

Once you have determined what your best feature is you will want to find a plus size evening gown that plays that up to the greatest extent. For example, if it is your long legs you might want to choose an evening dress with a sexy side slit. If you like your shoulder then an off-the-shoulder dress paired with an attractive necklace and earrings might be just the thing for you. On the other hand if you like your neck and your breasts you might want to go with a plunging V-neck dress (or for the modest plus size gal, a V-neck that is not so plunging!).

Trendy dresses are not always the best choice for evening wear. Instead for a glamorous social event you should think classic and elegant and timeless. It is also best to choose a dress that is beautiful but simple in design. You want your natural beauty to shine through and too much fussiness and too many extra features will detract from the overall picture of you. Accessories are fine, in fact they are imperative but pick and choose carefully. Never overdo a special occasion outfit.

Feeling Good In Plus Size Lingerie

Let’s face it- it is not always easy to feel good when you are a bigger boned woman. Whether you are tall or short, your size can be an issue, especially when you look around you and all you ever seem to see is women who appear to be no more than a size six or eight, or even worse, smaller. There is no magic formula for developing the confidence to feel good about the body size and shape you have. What you must do is acknowledge that this is who you are and then resolve to take as good a care of yourself as you can in every way. You are worth your best efforts after all!

One way to build confidence is to concentrate on your best features and then become as familiar with them as possible. Take a close look at your body in a full length mirror in a number of different outfits, but most importantly in your favorite plus size lingerie. Look at yourself in your bra and panties or in your favorite camisole and slip. What stands out as being your best attribute? Once you can zero in on that, you can then shop accordingly and your body image confidence will grow.

For a lot of plus size women their best features are their full breasts, their waist and/or hips and their legs. Use your most positive body traits to buy clothes that cast your body in the most appealing light as possible, and make you feel like a goddess!

The key to buying lingerie is to enhance your best features and to detract or minimize your not so good features. Plus size women should opt for looser or flowing lingerie that hugs the curves of the breast and hips. Looser in this case does not meant too loose, as in it looks like you are wearing lingerie that is two sizes too big. Instead look for the “flow factor”. Tight lingerie is a no no except for a woman who has a body with next to no fat on it. Even many skinny girls do not like to wear tight lingerie because it makes all of your body’s flaws very obvious. You want the sensuous curvage of your body to be highlighted and nothing else.

The purpose of lingerie is to make your curves stand out and to make you look and feel confident, sexy, seductive and just plain wonderful! The plus size woman has as much right to want to be sexy as does the teensy tiny woman. Curves show that you are a woman in every respect of the word and they should be rewarded, appreciated and cherished. Go out and be your confident, beautiful self and wear lingerie, all types of plus size lingerie, with utmost sophistication and charm.

Tips for Plus Size Evening Gowns

When it comes to plus size evening wear, do you know what to look for when picking out an evening dress? Plus size women want to look sexy, stylish and red hot sizzling! More and more designers are getting in touch with the ways of the modern women and the latest plus size clothing trends are reflecting this. This is very good news for plus size women who for many years have been disappointed with the lack of decent choices for women who are large boned and sensuously curvaceous.  Today’s more liberal minded designers are creating evening wear for plus size women that are elegant and glamorous.

What You Need to Keep in Mind

Before you start looking for the perfect plus size evening gown, you need to be as clear as possible about what type of social event you will be attending. The occasion will dictate the type of evening dress you need. Evening wear is vast and therefore being able to zero in on what type you need is so very important.

If you receive an invitation and you are not sure if it is formal (black tie) or semi formal, do not be afraid to ask for clarification. Nobody wants to show up at a social occasion in a dress that is all wrong for the occasion. That is a serious fashion faux pas that no plus size woman wants to break! A beautiful floor length gown befitting Cinderella is very elegant but not if every woman in the room but you, is wearing a cocktail dress.

As a general rule of thumb, any social occasion that takes place after 6pm calls for a dress that leans towards the formal side. The good news for the plus size fashionista is that the options for evening dress are not strict or conventional anymore. Today’s woman who is attending a formal event has lots of options for evening wear and there is no reason at all that she cannot allow her personality to shine through! Some examples of evening dresses that can be appropriate fro a variety of formal “after the sun goes down” occasions include floor length halter dresses, sheath dresses, dresses that include a jacket instead of a wrap (these dresses were formerly thought of as mother of the bride dresses but today can be worn by any woman), and off-the-shoulder dresses for summer season galas.

Consider the type of fabric you would like your evening dress made out of. Most plus size evening dresses are made from synthetic material which is good for those who need to watch their money and cannot afford to spend too much. Buy an evening dress that is made out of wool crepe, nylon or a body skimming jersey material (and /or a material that is similar). The key here is to find a fabric that accentuates your womanly curves as opposed to hiding them or worse yet, allowing the less advantaged areas of your body to take center stage.
